Editor,
It really was summer’s best bash. Our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to our fundraising event Rikki’s Groove on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 15. As noted in the July 29 edition of The Record, our dear friend Rikki Moress is fighting a rare cancer. Her insurance does not cover her alternative treatment.
Under twinkling lights, we had delightful music DJ’d by Rikki’s son Ian Jackson, a heartfelt song from Piper Reva, live music from Wade Wilcox and Friends including Roger Bennett, Eric Conn, Ron Rossel and Joseph Sanchez. Mouth-watering food and drink was provided by Dorcas Young of Lesedi African Foods. Many local artists and businesses contributed to the silent auction, with folks taking home lots of treasures.
Many in our local community came to lovingly support Rikki, throughout this magical evening, and we want to mention them here: Pat and Jan Clark, Ron Roesler Printing, Lauryn Taylor, Rob Schouten, Mark Skullerud, Diane Tompkinson, Fine Gelfand, Tammi Sloan, Fara Wexler, Lynn Berry/The Treehouse Retreat, Deception Pass Tours, Thrive Cafe, The Clyde Theater, The Goose, Payless Foods, Llynya’s, The Taproom at Bayview, Drew Kampion, Jim and Andrea Slichter, Sweet Sisters Bodycare, Earth Rhythms Landscaping, Sanctuary Spa of Kirkland, Tom Giffin, Piper Reva, Traci and Morgan Vanadisson, Dylan Jacobs, Gina Ames, Moon Dickson, Patricia Handrich Rohan, Andrea Hurst, Jonathan Bartholick, Deborah Eimers, Elsa Leavitt, Jeanette Ashworth, Kim Elizabeth, Joan Johnson, Ginger White, Bear and Aniesa Thames, Justin Burnett at The Record, Joanna Weeks at Whidbey Local.com … and others we may have overlooked.
Rikki enjoyed the event tremendously, moving through the crowd to graciously thank all who attended. She had the kind of vibrant glow that comes when one knows they are held and supported by love.
Thank you to those of you who have contributed anonymously to the Whidbey Island Bank account and to www.gofundme.com/rikkicare.
Thank you barely begins to honor your gift of love!
