I read your column about ferry cutters with total sympathy. I have written before about this subject myself. I use the HERO line, with never an expectation that it will do any good.

I don’t want to get in a physical fight or get shot over a ferry cut.

However, I recently had cause to take the ferry from Kingston to Edmonds on a busy Sunday and the Washington State Patrol had a checkpoint shortly after I got in line. The state patrol officers passed out a separate ticket that one had to have to get through the ticket booth with either a return ticket, or to buy one. Why do we not get the same treatment by the state patrol as the Kingston Edmonds run? When I went to the hearings on the new ferry terminal, I was led to believe that the Mukilteo/Clinton run is one of the most heavily used ferries in the system. We need to have the state patrol do similar checkpoints for our ferry.
