To the editor:
On behalf of the Langley nonprofit Giraffe Heroes Project,
I want to take this opportunity to thank the South Whidbey community for their support of our June 1 event honoring Giraffe Hero and Whidbey resident, Joel Bisina.
We had an excellent turnout, and were moved by the level of interest and connection the attendees demonstrated for Bisina’s humanitarian work in the Niger Delta of Nigeria.
As always with such a community event, there are people whose work made it all happen. Our thanks go to The Rev. Dr. David Vergin, Bill Humphreys, B.J. Elliott and the Church and Society Committee of Langley United Methodist Church for co-hosting the event and providing setup of the Fellowship Hall; volunteers from both organizations and Gene Felton of the Star Store for donating refreshments; Talia Toni Marcus, Steve Showell, Joanne Rouse and Robert Simon Siegel for sharing their wonderful musical talents; and volunteers Sue Keblusek, Beverly Rose, Jeff Drake, and Austin, Megan and Sean Drake. We also want to thank The South Whidbey Record and writer Spencer Webster for their extensive coverage of Bisina’s work in the Niger Delta.
There’s more information on his work at www.sweetcrudemovie.com and more on Giraffe Heroes at www.giraffe.org.
