To the editor:
I own two cars, and the majority of miles I drive are on Whidbey Island. Currently, I appreciate the relatively low amount of congestion and vehicle traffic.
I have learned that Island Transit transported nearly 1.4 million people via bus, paratransit and vanpool in 2008. It is clear that a significant contribution to our ease of driving on the island Monday through Saturday would be attributed to Island Transit services and its riders.
If only 25 percent of the total ridership were car drivers, that would translate to 350,000 fewer cars on the roads we all travel Monday through Saturday. Three-tenths of 1 percent sales-and-use tax — is it worth it? Something to think about as we all travel down the road.
