To the editor:
I got away from the Hearts & Hammers dinner without thanking all the people that made the trucking team so successful this year.
And I want to thank Jim Scullin and the Hearts & Hammers board with Linda Kast prodding me, for their persistence in requesting help. In the past I have contributed to this cause by donating the use of a dump truck. This year, due to Linda’s connection to both Hearts & Hammers and to my business, the 2008 trucking team evolved.
Dump trucks from Todd Nysether Trucking, Andrew and Shannon; Krieg Construction, Bruce Grimm; MOC Excavating, Corey Mills; Island Asphalt, Ray Rogers; one-ton from Frontier, Jeremy McCormick; Lumbermens; Gemkow Construction, Marge Maurer-Gemkow and Matt Lautenbach; individuals with trucks, Ron Wallick, Bill Little, Dave and Jodie Grimm, and Pat; Susie Gordon and Keith Wrightsman who drove Island Asphalt rigs; Kate Rogers’ sorting crew; and Brent Roberts the loader driver.
Being on the management side was much more gratifying than making a donation. During the week prior, my guys and I spent time lining up trucks and drivers, visiting the job sites and hauling logs for the Woodchucks.
On the workday, I had a blast coordinating the dumpsite at my shop and dispatching trucks. The drivers were great. The captains and crews were great.
And at the end of the day, the homeowners were very grateful for what they’ve been given but the volunteers were the ones with the weary smiles on their faces.
