Recently, eight of us dined royally, celebrating art, friendship, generosity and community support.

The setting was the Prima Bistro in Langley.

For me, it began in April at the South Whidbey Soroptimist fundraising event, Purses with a Purpose, a lively evening that supports wonderful programs to educate and care for girls and women.

During the live auction, a friend and I splurged to purchase the Winemakers’ Dinner at the Prima Bistro, a memorable sounding evening, as a gift for our husbands.

What an experience.

Elegant food created by Chef Sieb Jurrians paired with masterful wines from the Chelan Estate Winery. Both Sieb and winemaker Bob Broderick described each piece of their art, their words enhancing each course. The dinner, the wines, the service  all was exquisite.

As we left, with pampered palates and insights to flavor combinations, I also realized that this dinner reflects beautifully how healthy communities work.

To benefit Soroptimist programs, Prima Bistro donated a multi-course dinner.

Mary and Bob Broderick followed suit with wines for each course. Local businesses supporting local good works. Such happens regularly. Then we, the public, join in.

As we support local organizations, both for profit and nonprofit, we build an ever stronger, joyous circle of caring. Community at its best.

So, here’s a shout out to hardworking Soroptimists, Jenn and Sieb Jurrians and their perfectly attentive staff, and the Brodericks.

You nourished all our senses, especially the quiet one called soul.
