LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Your support is much appreciated

To the editior:

Soroptimists of South Whidbey Island are grateful to everyone who attended or contributed time, energy, enthusiam and donations to our “Purses With a Purpose” auction last month. Our 25th anniversary celebration was a huge success thanks to our wonderful community, supporters, and volunteers! Proceeds benefit our service fund which allows us to continue club sponsored programs, and provide awards, scholarships, and grants to organizations that improve the lives of girls and women in our community.

Our programs include our Heart of a Woman program, which provides free cardiac screening and follow-up care if needed for South Whidbey Women in partnership with Whidbey General Wellness Program. We also provide Island Girls Day Camp, a free week long camp for middle school girls focused on empowerment and Kickin & Screamin self defense program-free self defense session for teen girls.

Among our several awards for women and girls is the Violet Richardson Award, in recognition of community service to a 14- to 17-year-old girl. The deadline is Dec. 1 for this award of $500 to the awardee, plus $500 to her charity of choice. The winning application is sent on for consideration on a regional recognition level.

Please call 331-4127 for an application for our Violet Richardson Award or information regarding any of our other awards and programs or our upcoming Holiday Decor Party & Auction on Dec. 10; admission, wine and appetizers at this upcoming event are complimentary.
