To the editor:

1. For several long weeks (months?), the majority of Island County commissioners have been unable to make a decision on a simple issue. Our three commissioners have been haggling about how to divide travel money among themselves to do their county related work while away from Coupeville.

2. Weeks (months?) ago, Commissioner Emerson made her position clear. She wants an even three-way split. Equal opportunity for each commissioner to represent us. Equal respect among equals? Nah. Commissioner Homola wants a complex equation weighing the value she places on each of the other commissioners’ efforts. Commission Chair Price-Johnson seemed to agree with Emerson, but wanted Emerson to compromise and to accept some of Homola’s views and controls. Her “consensus” thing again. Weeks (months?)!

3. Emerson got tired of wasting time on making such an easy decision. Emerson reminded Homola and Price Johnson that they have instructed her they have two votes to her one vote. Emerson suggested the two go ahead and do what they want, “You have the votes.” That was too hard. They will spend more time thinking about this …

4. Grow up ladies, get off the dime. Make a fair and equal decision. Quit wasting time and money on such an easy and obvious call. Respect the voters who elected you. Treat each other as equals with different political views. The voting public will sort things out with our votes. Fortunately we get to do that this year.
