To the editor:
As a faithful reader and longtime resident of Freeland, I am more than a little fed up with the syndrome “Langley is the Center of Universe on South Whidbey.” Your coverage of the battles on the city council affect only 750 voters — enough already!
In the meantime those of us who are to be very impacted by Nichols Brothers Boat Builders’ expansion plans can find no real reporting on those issues. What was reported on Saturday, July 2 was a nice PR piece, but nowhere did it mention their new request to the county in an official application to be allowed 24-hour-a-day operations, to mention just one of their unacceptable ideas. As an owner since 1960 of two waterfront lots almost next door can you imagine what this means to the neighborhood, not to mention my property values?
It is common knowledge that when there is no new business for NBBB they try to “expand” their operating permit and, if possible, avoid an EIS. Your paper could at least report accurately on this.
