To the editor:
As the current owner of the former Roderick McLeod House in Langley, I wish to correct an inaccuracy I unintentionally perpetrated during my chat with reporter Roy Jacobson for his interesting article on the history of our building in last Wednesday’s Record.
Mayor Maggie McLeod was not the daughter of Roderick and Sarah McLeod, and she did not live in OUR McLeod House. Mayor Maggie was the second wife of Angus McLeod, one of the several other McLeod brothers who came to Langley from Nebraska in the early years of the 20th century.
To better understand “Who’s (really) on First” in Langley, I would invite everyone interested in the history of Langley’s downtown to attend Bob Waterman’s talk on the subject at our McLeod house at 314 First St. at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17. The talk is sponsored by Langley’s Historic Preservation Commission, the South Whidbey Historical Society, and the new Langley Main Street Association. All are welcome!
