To the editor:

I just wanted to make a quick rebuttal to Mr. Dyment re: my report from another planet.

I had asked why Republicans hate people, why they want to cut programs that actually help people.

Mr. Dyment felt that an adequate response was to put some national debt numbers in print, some inflammatory language about the left/far left being ignorant and stupid.

Instead of responding to my earnest rhetorical questions, Mr. Dyment treated us to Limbaugh/Fox news talking points.

Here’s a short budgetary lesson for you courtesy of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.

From 1978 to 2005, under Democratic administrations, the federal debt was increased by 4.2 percent.

For the same period, 1978 to 2005, under Republican administrations, the Federal debt was increased by 36.4 percent.

Under Reagan and Bush I the national debt went up from almost $1 trillion to $5 trillion. Don’t Republicans remember when Cheney said, “Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter?”

Clinton held it at about $5.5 trillion for his two terms. When Bush II and Cheney were appointed to the office by the Supreme Court in an administrative coup all budgetary bets were off and the Republican-led sacking of America was on.

Bush/Cheney Republicans doubled the budget deficit up to almost $11 trillion.

The national debt will continue to rise nearly a trillion dollars a year just to pay the interest.

This is the mess Obama, and all Americans, inherited and have to deal with.

Now the Republicans want to start cutting programs that actually help people. Republicans want the working poor to pay back their debt.

This is what bothers me about the Republican Party, the profound hypocrisy.

It’s time to pay the bill for the Republican drunken frat party and the Republicans want the working poor to pay.

Hence my very real question, why do Republicans hate people?
