To the editor:

As senior citizens, my husband and I have a vested interest in supporting good healthcare. After all, we are in the age bracket that uses most of those services. And we just read that this age group will nearly double in size in the next few years. That’s why we will be supporting the upcoming hospital bond election.

We know that when Whidbey General Hospital first opened its doors, it was hailed as a state-of-the-arts facility. Today, decades later, it struggles to maintain the status quo.  We know, also, that if we want quality healthcare at WGH for everyone, we need to do something as soon as possible.

The explosion of medical technology, along with that of the Island County population, has left the hospital bursting at the seams. We hope you will agree that we need to add a new hospital wing — and the sooner, the better.

But don’t take our word for it. We encourage everyone to attend the upcoming informational meetings being held around the island. Learn the facts, then decide for yourself.
