Editor,
I just sealed my ballot and put a stamp on it. Here’s hoping, huh?
I get that there is a faction of men who identify with Donald Trump. Did you cheer when Donald Trump denigrated Khizr Khan, whose son, an American Muslim soldier, was killed in Iraq? When he’s elected he’s gonna throw all of the Muslims out of the U.S. Yeah, right.
Was he your voice because you are afraid to say it yourself? Did you cheer when Donald Trump denigrated U.S. District Judge, Gonzalo Curiel? When he’s elected he’s gonna build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. Yeah, right. Again, was he your voice?
What about Miss Universe, Alicia Machado? Did you think it was cool that he denigrated her in a public fat shaming tactic? Why was he even talking about this? Is that your voice, too? How about the 12 women who have accused him of sexual assault? You don’t have a problem with that, either? I sure as hell don’t understand it, but I accept it exists. But, I will never accept or understand why a single woman in this country would vote for Donald Trump. Yet judging by the crowds at his rallies, there are plenty of women who must be doing just that.
So, if you vote for a man who kisses women without their consent, or grabs their genitalia and thinks he has a perfect right to do so, what does that say about how you value yourself, as an intelligent, hard-working American woman, mother and wife? Donald Trump is a man who denigrates women and brags about it and you still want to give him your vote? What are you as an American woman showing your daughter? Yes dear, men might sexually assault you without your consent, but not too worry, they mean no harm, just being “locker room boys.” Don’t you want your daughters to grow up strong and proud? I don’t want Donald Trump’s America for any child.
Besides voting for the person you want to lead and represent your country around the world, this ballot is also about dignity and respect for women and girls, about self worth, about equal pay for an equal job, about denouncing misogyny and those tenets are worth fighting for. So, get out there and VOTE!
