The next Play and Scene Study at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts will explore “American Musical Theatre: History, Scenes and Songs.”

WICA’s Conservatory’s Play and Scene Study class is led by Robert W. Prosch, and provides an environment for experienced, beginning and non actors to gather for readings, to learn reading and performance technique, and to become acquainted with a broad theatrical repertoire without the pressure of full performance.

The class is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6. The fee is $10.

Prosch currently serves as the conductor and artistic director for the WICA Chamber Singers, the WICA Conservatory Choir and the South Whidbey Youth Chorus, and the WICA Glee Club.

He recently made the jump full-time into the arts, and currently maintains a music studio that includes vocal study, performance coaching, conducting, directing, arts consulting and facilitation, and personal performance, both acting and recital performance.

Prosch’s recent credits include artistic direction for the WICA productions of  “Metamorphoses,” musical direction for “Twelfth Night,” music direction and conductor for “Oliver!” and music direction for “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.” He also played the role of Judge Turpin in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” at WICA. His current activities with the choirs have included “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Music on the Sound,” and a “Mythos” concert.

Prosch is also directing “Big, the Musical” this holiday scene at WICA.
