  • MEET THE ARTIST, Eckhardt Ullrich, Saturday, Oct. 5, 12-7 p.m. at the Langley Whale Center. Eckhardt uses his years of experience in the waterjet industry to create beautiful metal designs. He will be holding free prize drawings for his Halloween yard stakes during the Langley Art Walk.
  • Check out BACHTOBERFEST 7:30-9:15 p.m. Oct. 5. This is the third season of fun, informal, Cabaret-style concerts. Located in the parish hall of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Freeland. Admission is $25 general, $20 seniors and 18 and under free.
  • A new four-day festival, the WHIDBEY ISLAND HARVEST FESTIVAL will run until Oct.-6 at the Whidbey Island Fairgrounds and Events Center in Langley.
  • After a rainstorm and subsequent flood, the WHIDBEY ART GALLERY is working hard at getting back into its space on Second Street, Langley. Gallery artists can be spotted during the Harvest Festival at the Turner Building at the Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 and 6, booths three and four.
  • The WHIDBEY ISLAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS musical, “Sex” will have shows running Oct. 11–Oct. 26. This show is a new adaptation and re-imagining of the 1926 Mae West comedy-melodrama. Buy tickets at wicaonline.org
  • The town gets dressed up for the Oct. 31 holiday with SPOOKTACULAR LANGLEY. Children and parents can Trick or Treat downtown from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Check out the crows around town created by metal artist Scott Alexander and wood artist Mike McVay.
  • The OAK HARBOR LIBRARY will host two group shows in October. Posters created for the “CHOOSE CIVILITY” Art and Photography Contest, sponsored by Civility First and Sno-Isle Libraries, and artwork on the theme of “CULTIVATING WONDER” by Whidbey Island Waldorf School students will be displayed.
  • The oranges, reds and yellows inspired by fall will be front and center this month at the GARRY OAK GALLERY, which will be open late, 4-7 p.m. Oct. 17 for THIRD THURSDAY in downtown Oak Harbor. There will be light refreshments.
  • Production of THE ADDAMS FAMILY will show at the WHIDBEY PLAYHOUSE Oct. 25- Nov. 17.
  • Celebrate Halloween in spooky style at HAUNTED FORT CASEY 6:30-10:30 p.m. Oct. 25 and 26. Tickets must be pre-purchased online this year, visit the Whidbey Playhouse website.
  • The featured artist for the PENN COVE GALLERY for October is wood artist Jim Short. Short will be at the gallery on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some of his wood-turning tools.
  • The ARTWORKS GALLERY’s featured artist for October is Marcia Muchnik and her hand thrown pottery. Her functional pottery incorporates genuine leather to pitchers and mugs, giving them a medieval character. Visit the artists and see their work at the SECOND SATURDAY RECEPTION, Oct. 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Greenbank Farm.
  • After undergoing extensive renovations, the Sculpture Garden will now be open at the ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY Oct. 5-28. The garden will display 17 pieces by of some of Whidbey Island’s finest sculptors. The artist’s reception and opening day will be Saturday, Oct. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. during Langley’s FIRST SATURDAY ART WALK. Light refreshments will be served.
  • The featured artist through October in the OAK HARBOR CITY HALL is Helen Bates, who paints in oil, watercolor, acrylics and more.
