The Open Door Gallery + Coffee will open its art gallery this week to benefit a local organization working for a healthy and diverse community.

Saratoga Community Housing, a nonprofit community land trust, works to create and preserve permanently affordable housing opportunities for people in the community. In order to help raise money for additional land trust homes, artists are asked to donate a piece of art or sign up for a performance slot at the opening reception on May 14.

The gallery is actively seeking artists willing to contribute a piece of work around the themes of “Home” and “Community.” Welcome are artworks from painters, sculptors, potters, printmakers, quilters, poets, writers or musicians. Emerging artists are also encouraged to participate.

The proceeds from the show will be shared between Saratoga Housing, Open Door and the artists, with each receiving one-third.

The opening reception and silent auction will be hosted by Open Door Gallery and Saratoga Community Housing from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 14. The art show will run through May 28.

Artwork can be dropped off at the Open Door Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. through May 13.

For more information, call the gallery at 321-3020.
