Car show comes to airport

The DeLaurentis International Airport is hosting its first public event.

The DeLaurentis International Airport is hosting its first public event, featuring flashy cars, music and more.

The Illusions car meet is free to the public and will take place 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the airport, located at 1140 North Monroe Landing Road in Oak Harbor.

According to owner Robert DeLaurentis, the car show will feature between 50 and 100 cars — supercars, old trucks, vans and vintage cars — that will be judged by a panel.

The cars will also parade around the airport and participate in a revving competition, with 10 trophies available for contestants.

Visitors can enjoy mocktails and tacos from two vendors, listen to music from a house DJ and take a look inside the Life Flight helicopter and ask questions, DeLaurentis said.

People who wish to fly in can land at the airport until 3:45 p.m., while pilots who need to fly out before the end of the event can be released individually.

DeLaurentis purchased the airport last year and has been renovating it ever since, recently being recognized as a privately-owned airport for public use and receiving a permit to expand the size of its runway from 25 to 60 feet. Currently, he said, the airport is waiting for the completion of the taxiways, the parking lot, the walkway and the Life Flight Network helipad.
