Blues diva Cee Cee James, who is often compared to such legendary voices as Janis Joplin, launches her new CD, “Blood Red Blues,” to benefit Choochokam Arts on Tuesday, March 13 at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in Langley.

Together with Portland’s Ben Rice Band, the combo is expected to fill the house.

James is promising to play all songs off the new album — to be released May 1 — just for this show. She is also offering $5 off admission to a show at Cozy’s Roadhouse in Clinton on Saturday, March 17 for music lovers who attend the WICA show.

A Choochokam Arts alum, James has been a great supporter of the festival over the years and this show is proof of her commitment to the festival’s main stage that has showcased emerging regional musicians over the 37 years of the festival’s history.

Ben Rice, also a past Choochokam Arts main stage musician, is best known for his rockabilly, swamp rock and soul-infused country style. He released “Pour me some Whiskey” in 2011 and is wrapping up a tour that has taken the band from Texas to Missouri, Arizona and a lot of places in between.

Rice opens for James at 7:30 p.m.; doors open at 7 p.m.

General admission tickets cost $15 and special VIP passes, which include special seating, a private reception with the artists and CDs  cost $50. There are only 25 VIP passes available, so call now to reserve a special time with these musical greats.
