Oak Harbor will experience a rare treat this February – a concert in wintertime.
Dance the Blues Away is taking place at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Elks Lodge in Oak Harbor. This fundraising event is hosted by the Windermere Foundation. The Savage Blues Band will be performing.
In 1989, Windermere Real Estate created the foundation to give back to the community. Each Windermere office has its own foundation branch. Windermere real estate agents also give a portion of their commissions to the foundation.
“When we raise money in our local community, all of that money stays here to support all of the different organizations who ask us for help,” said Coreen Lerch, a broker and Realtor for Windermere.
Money from concert tickets will go to organizations that help low income families such as Opportunity Council, Help House, Margie’s House and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The foundation also has a scholarship for high school students across the island who want to pursue an education at a trade school. Depending on the number of applicants, the foundation has helped one to four kids every year since 2018.
“We work with so many people in the trades in our industry,” Lerch said.
The Savage Blues Band, formerly known as Johnny and the Moon Dogs, plays danceable rock and blues music. Along with music, there will be a silent auction and a no host bar.
Tickets will be available at the door or on eventbrite.com and cost $25.
