As part of a lecture series sponsored by Langley United Methodist Church and the Whidbey Island Community Education Center, Duncan Ferguson will speak on celebrating the place of love in our lives and in our world.

Ferguson’s new book, ”Lovescapes, Mapping the Geography of Love: An Invitation to the Love-Centered Life” will be available for purchase at the lecture.

Ferguson will use it as the basis of his remarks from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14 in the Langley UMC Fellowship Hall.

The Church Chancel Choir, directed by Bill Humphreys, will also contribute to the program with a special musical expression of love in the human experience, with refreshments served after the lecture.

Ferguson has served the church and higher education as a chaplain, professor and senior administrator.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, has published several articles and six books including “Exploring the Spirituality of the World Religions.” He was a visiting scholar at Princeton Theological Seminary in 2010 during which he worked on Lovescapes.

Ferguson will also be facilitating a six-week Lenten study at the church starting Feb. 19 or 20.

There are two class time choices: Tuesday evening, 7 to 8:30 p.m.; or Wednesday morning, 10 to 11:30 a.m. The class will use his book, “Landscapes, Mapping the Geography of Love,” which will be available in the church office for $25.
