Get ready for a wicked ride at OutCast Productions with Christopher Durang’s absurdist comedy “Why Torture is Wrong and the People Who Love Them.” The show opens Friday, July 11 at the Black Box Theater at the fairgrounds in Langley.

Durang turns political humor upside down with this raucous and provocative satire about America’s growing homeland “insecurity.” The play tells the story of a young woman suddenly in crisis: Is her new husband (whom she married when drunk) a terrorist? Or just crazy? Or both? Is her father’s hobby of collecting butterflies really a cover for his involvement in a shadow government? Why does her mother enjoy going to the theater so much? Does she seek mental escape, or is she insane?

Directed by Ned Farley, the cast of zany characters includes Sean Brennan, Jim Carroll, Max Cole-Takanikos, Gabe Harshman, Teresa McElhinny, Nancy Pfeiffer and Katie Woodzick.

The play runs at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through July 26; 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20; and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24.
