Space is still available at a series of markets highlighting fine art, which will be held this summer and fall.
Visual artists are invited to apply at least six weeks in advance to the Whidbey Art Market, a pop-up event happening at locations in Freeland and Oak Harbor.
The first market is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 10 and noon to 4 p.m. July 11 at Whidbey Island Sculpture Experience.
More market dates and times are available on the website, whidbeyartmarket.com.
All events are open to the public and admission is free. No tickets or reservations are required.
Kim Tinuviel, an artist who is organizing the Whidbey Art Market, explained that the events are in response to artists losing sale opportunities during the pandemic.
The events will follow COVID safety guidelines. Some of the shows will be happening indoors.
Artist openings are limited at the July show, but there are more shows in August, September and November.
In an effort to distinguish itself from the Whidbey Makers Market, which traditionally focuses on the work of producers and crafters, the newer Whidbey Art Market focuses on fine art. Paintings, woven baskets, jewelry and photos are just some of the works of art that will be available.
There will also be artist demonstrations.
For many artists, they haven’t been able to have their work at an art sale for the past 14 months because of the pandemic.
“It’s an opportunity to see friends, it’s an opportunity for a day of shopping,” Tinuviel said.
