They grew up singing and sang as often as they could.

Now they’re back to sing some more, with generous spirits.

The leadership committee of Whidbey Children’s Theater in Langley presents “This,” a musical review featuring current students and alumni of the theater in a benefit performance Thursday Aug. 13 through Sunday, Aug. 16.

The singers include Natalie Groce, Sean Hough, Zora Lungren, Elizabeth Grant, Bridget Scott, Samantha O’Brochta, Jasmine O’Brochta, Carrie Walker, Andy Walker, Cameron Gray, Ahna Dunn-Wilder and Cadin Webb. Musical accompaniment is by Grant Neubauer and Keegan Harshman, and Nathan Simpson will light the show.

The singers’ impetus stems from their fondness for the Martha Murphy Mainstage of WCT, a place as familiar to them as their own back yards. “This” is a show of thanks to the patrons and community members who served as their audiences for many years.

The performers said they are challenged and ready to break the record of funds raised last year with proceeds from “This.”

Audiences will hear songs from “The Pirates of Penzance,” “Godspell,” “Songs for a New World,” “Hairspray,” “Cabaret” and “A Chorus Line.” Additionally, the talented youths have added some songs from new shows, including songs from “Legally Blonde, “Spamalot” and “Edges.”

“This” is a student-driven project of love for musical theater and all its denizens.

The show is 90 minutes and starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and 2 p.m. Saturday. Call 221-2282 for info.
