Whidbey Island Nourishes (W.I.N.) was the recipient of a $5,000 grant from The Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound (ECF).
The Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound is an employee-owned and managed charitable giving program. It has been working since 1951 to build better communities and make a positive impact in the Puget Sound region where employees live and work, according to a press release.
“We are so thankful to the ECF for their contribution,” Pam LeLoup, Whidbey Island Nourishes board president, said in a press release. “It will make a big difference to our continuing efforts and the families that we serve.”
Since 2007, Whidbey Island Nourishes has worked to reduce youth hunger in the community. The volunteer-powered organization makes over 2,000 meals a month during the school year at no cost to those in need. The South Whidbey School District reported that in 2015, 32 percent of students K-5 and their families needed assistance in obtaining consistent nourishment.
