The recent snowfall provided a stunning backdrop in Debbie Jackson’s garden near Penn Cove. She captured a multitude of birds that flew in to take advantage of bird feeders and bright, red berries in the yard.
Jackson said she had never seen so many birds in her garden all at once.
European starlings, robins, bald eagles and chickadees all made an appearance during the snow
“We moved here in November, so (we) have only been here a few months,” Jackson said.
She moved to Whidbey from Los Angeles, Calif., where she had lived for 36 years. Jackson grew up in South Africa.
Great blue herons, hawks, sandpipers, geese, hummingbirds, oystercatchers and a variety of ducks are just some of the other winged creatures Jackson has seen from her new home on the island.
“The bird life here is amazing and we have a fantastic view of them,” she said.
