Residence offers full spectrum of senior care without leaving the island

Regency offers a hub of care for seniors on Whidbey Island

For nearly 25 years, Regency on Whidbey has been a community hub for seniors on Whidbey Island, offering residential options ranging from independent living to specialized memory care.

Having these comprehensive senior living options – independent living, assisted living and memory care – means residents can enjoy their senior years with dignity, independence and comfort, all without leaving the island they love.

“We are the only community on Whidbey Island that provides this comprehensive continuum of care,” says Teri Mendiola, Community Relations Director.

“Families don’t have to go out of town or out of state. We cover the entire island, permitting residents to stay close to home and their loved ones.”

The community has 29 cottages for independent living, offering seniors a private and comfortable space where they can enjoy their independence with the reassurance of available support. Cottages include one or two-bedroom units with utilities, weekly housekeeping and one meal a day.

For those requiring a higher level of care, assisted living facilities offer spacious studios and one or two-bedroom apartments, along with amenities such as a beauty salon, movie theatre, library, and transportation services.

Enriching daily activities range from scenic drives to social gatherings, building a vibrant, active and engaged community.

The memory care program specializes in supporting seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia, with the care team engaging residents in activities that promote mental, physical and social health.

“Families don’t have to go out of town or out of state. We cover the entire island, permitting residents to stay close to home and their loved ones,” says Teri Mendiola, Community Relations Director. Photo courtesy of Regency on Whidbey.

“All our care is inclusive,” Mendiola notes. “From medication management to assistance with daily activities, we are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our residents.”

The community has been recognized as a leader in the area, earning accolades such as the Best Assisted Living award for the past 10 years and the Business of the Year award from the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce in 2023.

For Mendiola, the motivation behind her work is personal. “We’re helping families make a critical decision for their loved ones,” she says.

“It’s not just about finding a place to live; it’s about making sure it’s the right fit. We learn about the dynamics of each family and assist in every way we can.”

In addition to the residences, Regency also offers respite care, providing temporary relief for family caregivers while their loved ones are cared for in a comfortable environment.
