$12M Langley budget moves ahead

Langley’s $12.12 million budget passed muster with the city council after a first reading and a public hearing Monday at its Dec. 2 meeting. The public hearing included a couple of comments from two people, a Langley resident and a business owner. One man was concerned with the high amount of the budget, most of which is tied to capital projects like the Second Street redesign and utilities upgrades.

Langley’s $12.12 million budget passed muster with the city council after a first reading and a public hearing Monday at its Dec. 2 meeting.

The public hearing included a couple of comments from two people, a Langley resident and a business owner. One man was concerned with the high amount of the budget, most of which is tied to capital projects like the Second Street redesign and utilities upgrades.

“We’ve been setting aside money for years to get this done,” said Debbie Mahler, Langley’s clerk and treasurer.

Langley’s general fund is slated to operate with about $1.7 million. The city’s street fund will spend about $2.3 million and accounts for the highest proposed expenditure out of the 14 separate funds in Langley.

The Langley City Council will vote on the 2014 budget at its next meeting, Dec. 16.
