The Island County commissioners are seeking applicants interested in serving on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (or SWAC) in a position that will represent agriculture interests.
The appointed applicant will join eight other members for a term with no expiration date in reviewing solid waste programs, processes and documents.
As a whole, SWAC represents a variety of interests including citizens, public interest groups, business, the waste management industry, agriculture and local elected public officials.
Committee members are tasked with advising on solid waste policy and actively and consistently participating in committee meetings, both quarterly and as needed.
Members are also expected to develop a familiarity with the solid waste program in general, which covers the following: Comprehensive Solid Waste Plan, Comprehensive Hazardous Waste Plan, Waste Reduction and Recycling, Biosolids Issues and Educational Programs and Grants.
Obligations include quarterly meetings lasting one to three hours, other meetings as needed, attendance at infrequent meetings or hearings when a SWAC representative is required and knowledge of all materials forwarded prior to any meetings.
