A “Meet the Author” and book signing event with Whidbey Island author Sandra Pollard is scheduled at the Langley Whale Center from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.
Pollard, who will introduce her new book, “A Puget Sound Orca in Captivity — the Fight to Bring Lolita Home,” previously authored a book on orca captivity, “Puget Sound Whales for Sale.”
She is a certified naturalist member of the Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network and a volunteer for the Orca Network, and her new book chronicles the effort to bring Lolita — also known as Tokitae — home to her native waters.
Multiple groups have sought Tokitae’s release for years, including the Orca Network and the Lummi Nation.
Pollard will be available to sign books and answer questions.
An exhibit at the Center has information about the capture of Lolita from Penn Cove in 1970 and plans for her retirement from Miami Seaquarium to a sea pen in the San Juan Islands.
Langley Whale Center is located at 105 Anthes Ave, Langley, and is a project of Orca Network, a Whidbey Island nonprofit.
