COUPEVILLE — There’s no last-minute avalanche of ballots at the Island County elections office.

Tuesday’s ballot returns show yet another sign that today’s Primary Election will be a low-turnout affair. County election workers said approximately 500 ballots were brought in today for tonight’s tally.

“It’s a low count,” Diana Bradrick, department administrator for the Island County Auditor’s Office, said of the amount of ballots returned so far.

Ballots to local voters were sent out July 25.

Today’s election will narrow the field in a four-way Oak Harbor council race, a three-way race for a position on the board of commissioners for the Port of Coupeville, and two three-candidate races for the Langley City Council.

Also on the ballot for Langley voters, Proposition 1, a measure that would change the city’s form of government from the “strong mayor” model of government to the council-manager model.
