Whidbey Island Bank will open a branch at the former Linds Langley Drug in Langley, owner Ron Lind said Tuesday.
He said the bank has signed a lease for the bottom floor of the building, and will probably open in about two months.
The building has been vacant since the pharmacy, the only one in the city, closed in March. Lind said he closed the outlet to consolidate in his expanded Freeland store.
He said changes in the pharmacy business forced the closure, and that no other pharmacy approached him about taking over the space.
“The insurance industry has squeezed us pretty hard,” Lind said. “You have to do a high-volume business these days, and the population of South Whidbey isn’t growing at a significant rate.”
