After recovering from a slump last week, the Falcon baseball team hit another patch of bad luck over the past few days, losing two straight to Meridian.

On Saturday, a Meridian three-run homer in the first inning was the start of a 12 hit, nine-run Trojan assault that rendered a good South Whidbey hitting game useless. The Trojans won the road game 9-4.

The Falcons scored first in the game as Conley White and Dane Guetlin led off the first inning with back-to-back singles. White eventually scored on a passed ball. In the second inning, Falcon Andrew Mathis picked up his first home run of the season with a blast over the left field fence. Eric Flister added a double for the only other extra-base hit for South Whidbey.

It only got worse for Falcon pitching Monday. Hurlers Stefan Kolbo and Josh Coleman got dinged for 13 hits and 13 runs as the Falcons lost 13-5 at home.

The game was otherwise close, as Meridian did most of the damage in the sixth inning, when Trojan hitters brought eight runners across home plate. But earlier in the game, while down by five on a grand slam in the second and a solo shot in the fourth, the Falcons pulled within one run.

South Whidbey picked up runs in the fourth when Josh Coleman and Danny Mulcahy both scored on a Meridian miscue. In the fifth, Andrew Hosmer hit a two-RBI single to bring Mike Berry and Mulcahy home. The only other Falcon run came in the seventh when Coleman scored on a balk call. Andrew Hosmer led all Falcon hitters, going 2-for-3 on the day.
