South Whidbey Fire/EMS has made “Tactical Best Practices” a high priority this year.
The process evaluates the department’s activities, then compares those to the fire service industry’s best practices.
“We’re not only looking at what we’ve done well for a long time, but also new opportunities,” said Fire Chief Rusty Palmer. “There is always room for improvement.”
The first four areas of focus are fire, marine, medical and extrication. Palmer has asked teams of volunteer officers to review Standard Operating Procedures and to research what other emergency service agencies are doing. Results and recommendations will be presented to the entire department this spring.
