Five people escaped injury when their vehicles went off three different roads coated with black ice in the South End on Monday night and Tuesday morning, officials said.
Island County fire District 3 Chief Rusty Palmer said Tuesday that two of the vehicles rolled over.
In the first incident, a driver was unhurt when his car went off Langley Road near the intersection of Maxwelton Road and overturned, Palmer said. The man was alone in the car, he said.
A short time later, two people escaped uninjured after their car slid off Saratoga Road near Archwood Court, Palmer said.
And shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday, two other people escaped injury when their car went off Smuggler’s Cove Road near Bush Point and rolled over, he said.
“Folks have been really lucky,” Palmer said, noting that moisture on area roadways has been thawing and freezing regularly during the current cold spell.
“We urge people to use extreme caution,” he said.
