Island County Coroner Robert Bishop said Thursday morning the bones found last week on the beach near Bush Point are not human remains.
“They were definitely not human,” Bishop said.
A woman walking on the beach discovered what she thought were human remains late last week and called police. The woman, who was a nurse, said the bones appeared to be a couple of rib bones and a hip bone.
The bones were turned over to an Island County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who gave them to the county coroner. Bishop said he compared the bones to a model of a human skeleton and they did not match.
“They could be a cow’s bones,” Bishop said, adding that people frequently find non-human bones on the island’s beaches.
