Boy struck by car shows improvement

Upgraded from serious to satisfactory condition

The 11-year-old boy who was struck by a car while riding his bicycle has been upgraded from serious to satisfactory condition, according to a spokeswoman from Harborview Medical Center.

On Sept. 21, Thomas M. Patrick of Langley, was riding his bicycle west on Campbell Road, and entered the intersection of Maxwelton Road without stopping. He was struck by a car traveling north on Maxwelton travelling at almost 50 mph, which is the posted speed limit.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Bruce Maier said Patrick was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Patrick was thrown approximately 50 feet from the front of the 1993 Ford Escort that hit him.

Patrick was flown to Harborview in Seattle after he was determined to have massive head trauma, a broken collarbone and several cracked ribs, according to Maier.

Last week Patrick was upgraded from critical to serious condition.

Maier said he does not expect any infractions or citations will be issued in the accident.
