It’s almost November, meaning budget crunch time again for local South Whidbey governments.
The public can once again see how the budget sausage is made during upcoming public hearings and workshops for Langley and the Port of South Whidbey.
The Langley City Council added a budget workshop for Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. to continue discussions on revenue and expenditure estimates for next year. Another workshop on the 2019 preliminary budget is scheduled 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
At the Nov. 5 regular council meeting, a budget public hearing is scheduled; the meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
“We will probably have a public hearing on the budget at the meeting on Nov. 19 also,” said Debbie Mahler, city finance director. “The budget must be passed before the end of the year. We usually pass it by the first meeting in December.”
A public hearing on the preliminary budget for the Port of South Whidbey District is scheduled 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Freeland Library Meeting Room, 5495 Harbor Ave., Freeland.
A regular meeting of the commissioners will follow the budget public hearing. Its preliminary budget is available on file at the Port office, 1804 Scott Road, Suite 101, Freeland or seen online at www.portofsouthwhidbey.com
