A nonprofit organization with a mission to meet the needs of foster children will hold its first-ever auction online.

For several years, the board members of the volunteer-driven Kids First-Island County have discussed holding an auction.

That auction becomes a reality April 29 through May 8.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will provide children in foster care with opportunities nurturing their development, such as music lessons, summer camps, sports equipment and more.

“We bought one young man a bicycle so he could ride to school,” said Langley resident Kirk Lacewell, who is sits on the organization’s board.

During the past year, Kids First also expanded its coverage to foster children in San Juan County.

“Every August we give a prepaid gift card to every foster kid in either Island or San Juan counties so they can start school in new clothes,” Lacewell said.

The auction will be accessible via the website, kidsfirst-ic.org. All bidding will take place online. The nonprofit has a goal of raising at least $4,000.

Items such as restaurant gift certificates, pottery, boxes of chocolates and nested glass bowls will be up for bidding.
