Seventy hungry guests turned out for the gourmet “Langley Chefs Present” dinner at Mukilteo Coffee Roasters’ café ca’ buni on Earth Day. The event was a big success.

The recipient of this quarter’s culinary feast is the Whidbey Camano Land Trust, which received $6,000 from the fundraising event.

The trust’s development director, Elizabeth Guss, was overjoyed to receive the envelope of funds from Prima Bistro’s Jenn Jurrians at the end of the event. The land trust is currently fundraising to purchase and preserve a rare, 600-acre property known as the Trillium Development.

“When we protect land, we provide opportunities — to produce food locally, enjoy nature’s beauty and support a healthy system where wildlife and people both can have homes,” Guss said.

This is the fourth time the chefs have presented such a dinner for charity which all turned out to be outstanding culinary experiences for attendees. Langley Chefs Presents has helped out a bevy of local nonprofits including Whidbey Island Nourishes, Good Cheer Food Bank Garden and W.A.I.F..

Chef participants included Sieb Jurriaans of Prima Bistro, this year’s host Jess Dowdell of Mukilteo Coffee, Des Rock of Useless Bay Coffee Company, Matt Costello of the Inn at Langley, Donna Leahy of the Chef’s Pantry and Dawn Noble of Fireseed Catering.

Each chef chose a course and used their expertise to show off their skills in a shoulder-to-shoulder collaboration with their fellow kitchen artists. The six-course dinner was also paired with a selection of wines carefully selected by the chefs.

Langley chefs provided all the food, wine, venue and service staff at no cost to the recipient.

Dowdell said, “This is a chance to have fun working together, learn from each other and provide a significant contribution to our community.”
