Choochokam Arts Festival will return in 2017, albeit with a new date and location.
South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District commissioners approved a usage request from Choochokam Arts Foundation to use Community Park for the traditional Langley arts festival. Use of the park was approved for Friday, Aug. 25 through Monday, Aug. 28.
The festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 and Sunday, Aug 27, but festival organizers have booked two extra days for set up and cleanup efforts.
“These are the old dates when the fair used to be,” Parks Director Doug Coutts said. “The weekend in question wouldn’t conflict with any regular events.”
Parks commissioners unanimously voted to approve the request. Commissioner Dennis Hunter said the timing works well, since there aren’t any events happening that weekend during an otherwise busy summer at the parks district.
“I think the timing is good because the community misses an event at the end of the summer,” Hunter said. “This can be the new way to close out the summer.”
