Clinton resident Melyssa Smith had top-place finishes in several dance competitions this summer, fall and winter, according to a press release.
At an invitation-only International World Cup held this summer in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, Smith won gold and silver for her two solo entries, “My Funny Valentine” and “Skin and Bones,” respectively. She also competed in the 5678 Showtime Canadian Nationals Convention and Competition, held prior to the world cup, where she took home first-place trophies in each of her three self-choreographed solos.
This fall, Smith’s solo, “Skin and Bones,” was one of five finalists worldwide in the online competition, “Dance Upon a Dream.”
On Feb. 7 at the Nuvo Dance Competition and Convention in Bellevue, Smith won the “Die Hard Dancer” award and earned a scholarship from Stacey Tookey, a guest choreographer on the television show, “So You Think You Can Dance.”
She also finished second for the title of “Miss Dance” at the KAR Dance Competition on Feb. 19 in Burien, Wash. with her newest self-choreographed solo, “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
Her most recent accomplishment came on Feb. 28, when she was runner-up for “Miss Dance Icon” and fifth overall in the Rock Star Division at the Thunderstruck Dance Competition.
Smith currently trains at Allegro Performing Arts Academy in Kent, where she has spent the past three years honing her craft.
