Legal action may be facing the City of Langley.

The Langley City Council and mayor are set to meet in executive session at the end of the council’s regular meeting Monday, Nov. 19.

Langley has been embroiled in a longstanding negotiation process with a former police officer/police guild president, who challenged the city’s decision to fire him after 10 and a half months on the job.

Recently, the city is also sorting through a potential new personnel problem with the paid administrative leave of planning director Michael Davolio.

Discussions with the city’s legal counsel, Lighthouse Law Group, are closed to the public. The executive session is scheduled to be the last item of the meeting.

The council will also recognize recently deceased former planner Larry Cort with a Mayor’s Excellence Award.

A public hearing on the preliminary budget will be held. Some of those documents are available online from the city’s clerk treasurer’s office website, and a full copy of the preliminary budget is available to view at City Hall.

An annexation request by a property owner is also being considered by the city council, in addition to accepting the city’s fee schedule. The fee schedule includes all of the charges Langley may assess, including utility rates and permit applications. Utility rates are proposed to rise by 2 percent for sewer, storm water and water.
