A nine-member committee formed to address sewer alternatives in Clinton was appointed by Clinton Water District commissioners Wednesday night.

Volunteer members are RoseAnn Alspktor, Gail Madden, Silvan Mackie, Jack Lynch, Norm Brocard, Doug Brand, Jean Amick, Bob Thurmond and Monica Uhl.

The purpose of the group will be to study alternative methods of handling all types of wastewater, including storm runoff and sewer discharge.

The task force will be advisory only and will submit its recommendations to the commission.

Commissioners hope the group can assist the district in developing policies and guidelines for a comprehensive wastewater management plan.

Commissioner Maury Hood said the committee will give a voice to all segments of the community and provide an opportunity to study alternatives. He said the overall wastewater management plan will examine alternatives for waste disposal other than a central sewer system and will review current stormwater management.

“The comprehensive sewer plan is just one alternative,” he said. “We are not trying to close any doors and we want to hear different views and recommendations.”

Boundaries of the recently completed plan include two-thirds of the water distict’s customers.

For purposes of the new study, task force members will include all 700 water district connections.

“People want to know about alternatives to a sewer system. If we have septic systems that work well, then we should let them alone,” Hood said.

Both the Clinton and Freeland areas are currently working on sewer plans.
