“This year’s talent show showcasing the Southend’s brightest stars in community and school will take one last look at the decades of the 20th century in a “Blast from the Past.”The 10th annual event will take place in two evening performances this weekend at the South Whidbey High School Auditorium, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $4; $2 seniors and students, available at the door. For information, call 221-5159 evenings. Both productions will feature a “Fashion Timeline” with members of the community dressed by decade. The models will appear in their period clothing with help from the island historical societies and the Bayview Senior Center, coordinated by Susan Knickerbocker.Friday’s performance includes the Senior Fun Band in a pre-show sing-a-long, the Intermediate School Dolphin Choir, the Langley Middle School Saxophone Choir, Wellington Day School, Scottish and Irish dancing, plus an assortment of poems, piano, vocals, magic and instrumental solos.The Saturday night final performance features the Waldorf Middle School Choir, three South Whidbey Primary School classes, Island Strings, No Band Is An Island, the Carolina Parrots, and another assortment of poems, piano, vocals and dance. It also includes the debut of baby Fino Licastro, the talent show’s youngest performer ever and son of a member of the first talent show’s Spud family back in 1985!As always, Jim Freeman, master of ceremonies and conductor of fun, will tie everything together in his unique way, creating two memorable shows. Proceeds will help support district youth arts programs. Concessions will benefit HOPE riding school — Horsemanship Opportunities for Potential Equestrians. There will also be boxes available to accept donations of canned foods and warm clothes for families in need this season. Tickets at the door are $4; $2 for seniors and students.
