Langley City Council granted its first amplified music permit under its new noise ordinance Feb. 4, giving Mo’s Pub the go-ahead to have an amplified band playing inside from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 16.

“With all the doors closed,” added Maureen Cooke, owner of Mo’s, from the audience. No one spoke against the permit and planner Jeff Arango said he notified the most concerned neighbor by email, but received no response.

Councilwoman Rene Neff, mindful of the controversy over noise emanating from Mo’s Pub in recent months, urged that the city “make sure conditions of the permit are met.” Noting the police will be on duty, she suggested a police office “just drive by — just roll their window down and listen.”

Neff suggested a fee of $25 “for the officer’s time,” but Cooke objected. “He’s already being paid to drive by,” she said.

Mayor Pro-Tem Hal Seligson suggested quickly “letting this (permit) pass through, we have to monitor, but let’s not get into fees now.” The council unanimously approved the permit.
