Council to discuss climate element, buildable lands analysis

The Langley City Council will hold a special meeting next week to discuss these topics.

The Langley City Council will convene a special meeting next week to discuss two topics related to the city’s comprehensive plan amendment.

The first pertains to the climate element, a state-required goal of the Growth Management Act. Municipalities must plan to improve climate preparedness, response and recovery efforts.

The second is the results of a recent buildable lands analysis, which is part of the 2025 comprehensive plan update. Island County is in the process of selecting a 20-year population projection and allocating the projected growth between the urban and rural areas of the county. Langley will need to plan for 446 additional housing units by the year 2045.

The meeting begins at 3:30 p.m. this Monday, July 22 in city hall. The Zoom link is available on the meeting’s agenda, which is posted to the city’s website.

A potential quorum of the citizen-led Parks and Open Space Commission, Public Works Advisory Commission, Planning Advisory Board, Dismantling Systemic Racism and Climate Crisis Action Commission may be in attendance.
