Silent auction starts at 5:45, with live auction and dinner beginning at 7. Tickets are $20, available by calling 221-1656, or at the door. Tables laden with items from the rare and elegant to the necessary and practical will greet auction-goers at the 8th annual Country Harvest Auction this Saturday.The event is a major benefit for Langley Christian School. The funds raised will be used to replace the old and dilapidated playground equipment, as well as for general maintenance and other projects, said co-chairs Yvonne Klopfenstein and Beth Schoonover. Hundreds of items up for bid in both a silent and a live auction have been donated by island businesses and individuals as well as off-island supporters. Among them: a small bronze fox by Georgia Gerber, Thomas Kinkade art, baseballs signed by Alex Rodriguez and Dave Niehaus, Dexter Lewis carved stump bears. There are overnight stays at B&Bs and the Inn at Langley; a seven-day motorhome rental; a Port Ludlow resort package; and a week in Cabo San Lucas.Romantic dinners or pizza and bagels are on the block, as are haircuts, carpentry, housecleaning, massage and dental exams. There are also tools, a wading pool, Vogue sunglasses and a lemon meringue pie to buy.The auction annually raises in the neighborhood of $40,000. Langley Christian School is a K-12 private school with an enrollment of 60 students, located at South Whidbey Assembly of God.
