County road paving program rolls out on South Whidbey

South Whidbey residents may have noticed a bit of road paving in the Freeland area this week. Island County Public Works is in the midst of its annual paving and chip sealing program, which will affect about 8 percent — about 45 miles — of the county’s total 582 miles of roadway. The cost of the work is estimated at $4.4 million.

South Whidbey residents may have noticed a bit of road paving in the Freeland area this week.

Island County Public Works is in the midst of its annual paving and chip sealing program, which will affect about 8 percent — about 45 miles — of the county’s total 582 miles of roadway. The cost of the work is estimated at $4.4 million.

Overlay paving work this week on the South End included sections of Smugglers Cove and Bush Point roads, Mutiny Bay Road and Timber Lane. Wanamaker and Patmore roads on Central Whidbey were also worked on.

Additional overlays will take place this month so motorists should expect delays on the following roads during the following dates:

Aug. 11-15 — Pleasant View Lane, Cherry Street, Apollo Road and April Drive in Freeland; and Heather Drive, Skye Place, Moorland Place and Tartan Way in Clinton.

Aug. 18-22 — Berg Road, Olive Drive, Central Avenue and Possession Shores in Clinton; and French Road in Langley.

Also, chip sealing will be done Aug. 11-15 on the following roads: Passage Way, Blue Lady Lane, and Saratoga, Wells, Lone Lake, Goss Lake and Clyde roads.
