Kids from Island County can attend summer camp at Camp Arnold near Mount Rainier this June, thanks to the Salvation Army’s Service Extension Department and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County.
Camp Arnold at Timberlake was founded in 1965 and sits on 600 pristine acres facing Mount Rainier. The camp has secluded meadows, three miles of nature trails, a peaceful lake for canoeing, a challenge course, climbing wall, nature center and other outdoor and indoor activity areas.
Camp Arnold is a fully accredited camping program. Counselors are recruited from colleges and universities, and the administrative staff remain on-site through the duration of the camp.
This year’s camp is June 21-25, with two age groups able to attend.
Thirty-five 8- to 12-year-old children and six 13- to 16-year-old teens will be able to attend from the Island County area. Transportation will be provided to and from camp via the Big Brothers Big Sisters office parking lot in Oak Harbor.
Scholarships for the camp are based on family income. There is a $25 nonrefundable application fee per child, $30 cap per family.
Application packages may be paid for at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County offices located at the South End office at South Whidbey High School or at 913 E. Whidbey Ave. in Oak Harbor.
Applications are due by June 4.
