An hour-long meeting between the owners of the Dog House Tavern and Langley’s mayor and planning director has them all back to where they started more than a year ago: renovation and restoration.

Charlie Kleiner, who owns the historic building on First Street with his wife Janice Kleiner, told The Record they are looking to refurbish the building.

The Kleiners, who live in Issaquah, met with Mayor Fred McCarthy and Director of Community Planning Jeff Arango for an hour Tuesday. They also brought an architect with early designs for a renovated Dog House, which the owners claim needs significant work to bring it up to code for earthquake safety. McCarthy said the city is considering a land swap similar to one the Kleiners rejected earlier, which would have given them the existing easement adjacent to their property on the westside of the building; in exchange, the city would get property on the north end of the lot that would add to Seawall Park.

“We’re kind of back to where we were a year and a half ago,” Charlie Kleiner said.
